WEST SEATTLE, WA - "How do they get the jellyfish in the glass?" That's one of the most frequently asked questions at Avalon Glassworks, as customers marvel at the weightlessness inside these substantially heavy, solid glass "Jellyfish" paperweights. Live demonstrations showing how these ethereal creatures are made will continue throughout the day on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Avalon Glassworks in West Seattle. The public is invited to witness the process of layering colored and clear glass that creates the "jelly" during this one-day demo by artist Richard Lowrie. Meet the artist, ask questions about the process, and see Lowrie work. Glass Jellyfish signed by the artist will be available for purchase starting at $80 each. A regularly-featured artist at Avalon Glassworks, Lowrie operates his own glass studio in Sedro-Woolley, WA, where he creates a unique line of inspired, flowing platters and solid sculpture. Avalon Glassworks is located at 2914 SW Avalon Way, at the foot of the West Seattle Bridge, next door to Luna Park Cafe.
